These are my current pet peeves:
1. People who say F*** My Life - If that's how you feel about your life, I no longer feel I have to treat you with any kind of respect, because you seem to not care about yourself. Plus, it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
2."If You Can't Take Me During My Worst, You Don't Deserve Your Best." - I understand the intention of this statement, but it is mostly used by self absorbed people who use it as an excuse to not be responsible for their actions, excusing their bad behavior and excessive attitudes with an empty statement. If I have to handle your worst, I don't really think I want your best. I shouldn't have to work for your best, you should always give it. Forward moving people are those who best put aside selfish things to show an aire of class and dignity. I shouldn't have to earn that. No one should.
3. People who hate the Yankees who don't even like baseball. - Really? I can't really stand too much baseball. I like it but not that much. It is weird when people don't have a favorite team. It's just stupid that people don't have a favorite team, but STILL hate the Yankees. It just bothers me. And yes, I like the Yankees.
Hip Hop Culture, Sports, Politics, and a LOT of random thoughts from a 1/3 of the WordToEm click.

New Media
My day to day is affording me plenty to write on, but no direction in which to actually proceed, thus, the random, 5am deep discussion about nothing as my eyelids drop. I'm frantically fighting sleep to give you some random, unfocused thought. You can thank me later.
My bloggers' block, which I'm guessing is some form of writers' block that people decided was internet-specific, is really starting to mess with me. It's not your normal, I wish I had something to write about block, it seems to be more of the I'm too tired to focus on one topic block.
And this is the way new media is moving towards. Instead of going into a newsroom, sitting at my desk, where I'd sift through emails and forwards looking for something to spurn my writing juices, I'm sitting at home, in front of my computer, listening to some 9th Wonder, wondering why I am doing this instead of getting paid to write meaningless stories for a small town paper with dwindling circulation?
That answer is simple. The internet has created a new lane of media, public generated, and it no longer takes a journalism degree to report the news [not that many of my co-workers at the Morning Sun had journalism degrees to begin with]. This new form of user generated content does not fit in the traditional journalism standard, thus freeing this form of media from delusion, corporate pandering, or in some cases, even censorship.
Even with those positives, there's one thing the blog does not have to succumb to, and it causes the question of the existence of a lot of these blogs, including mine. There is unfortunately not a lot of bulk when it comes to tangible, truthful information. There are plenty of editorials, not NEARLY enough editors. Scrolling and skimming through this blog database, I've learned a lot of useful tricks of this new trade, but it lacks creditability, a cornerstone of the previous incarnations of media. Newspapers have copy editors, photo editors, department editors, etc. All dedicated [hopefully] to reporting the most efficient, credible and error free news it can provide, all while have culpability when it comes to maintain an honest and truthful standard. Is one person, the writer of all, to be trust to uphold these standards when the magnifying glass is turned inward? Or do we all fall short and acquiesce to the one dimensional view of our work?
If a person was devoted to being credible, could we accept that person's judgment of one's own work, or should we practice the due diligence that editors and media companies use in combing content to ensure the integrity of the news or editorial that's being given?
As my eyes get heavier and heavier, my thoughts drift to a time where information was paramount and the newspaper was king. It's now an afterthought, in a mystical land of 90 cent per gallon gas and the super Nintendo. All ancient relics of time before super computers, minimum wage gas, and pod casts. My only part in this is to find my role in this media power play.

Not much to discuss this evening/morning. I've been lax on posting; between work and trying to launch a small business with my father, I've been really busy. However, I promise that I will have more meaningful content later.
My business venture is a high accomplishment that I am in the current stages of planning. Execution has become a burden, being that the present economy has had an effect on lending. Banks, though given money through federal bailouts, have yet to disperse this money properly, choosing to handle executive bonuses and other frivolities, instead of doing what they are supposed to and loan the money out. It is extremely frustrating to have a good idea, a great plan, and an obvious need that could be filled, but can not borrow the capital to do such. This is a problem facing not only me, but plenty of other would-be small business owners. This has become so much an issue that plans for expansion are having to be seriously tailored to cost effective strategies, rather than proper profit maximizing.
And no, I'm not going to tell you the idea. Yet. Maybe once we are up and running. Until then, I will be right here, discussing whatever issues I choose, hoping that prosperity in life comes before I run out of things to write about. Until then, ponder the rationality of this popular quote, that people seem to think is deep.
"If you cant handle me at my worst, you sure as HELL dont deserve me at my best!"
A simple question. Why do people think that this is true? Is it a statement condemning the lack of patience people have towards others' moods? Or does the speaker truly believe this statement; by saying we don't deserve you at your best, does that give you the right to withhold your best, and then must we settle for your worst in the case that you believe so?
To me, this quote has always been something to ponder over. Commonly used by women I've met, I've always wondered whether this statement could ever actually be true. I've found myself wondering, should one have to endure the worst of someone, just to have the chance to experience that same person's better side?
It seems that this quote would also negate some very poignant, old phrases, such as, "put your best foot forward," or "always give your best."
The way I see it, if I have to earn your best, you are most likely not worth the travel to your best. Unless you possess some kind of inner glow, some sort of hidden attribute that makes you a person worth sticking around for, I'd just rather not bother. Life is incredibly short, and the last thing anyone wants to do is to get the crust of a person first, only to realize the thing you were searching for in them doesn't exist. There are lots of people who use this quote and you could wait eons to get to that best, that shining moment of brillance we all possess. Often, the reward is not worth the work.
Apply this where necessary. Don't wait for people to "earn" your best before you give it. No one is worth dealing with another person's personal baggage to get to the good side. If you are like me, you already got enough to deal with. People are dropping dead these days, make sure that if it's you, everyone around you realized how great you were while you were here.

To a place where I belong...
Welcome my eventual readers and even those of you who are checking this for the first time. My name is James O. Kotoye, but I'm also known as King James, or J for short. You are now in tune to the sounds [or words] of the Brainiac Society. Of all things I could name my introduction into the blog game, I've chosen the Brainiac Society for a myriad of reasons.
My first reason is because I believe I know everything, and nothing at the same time. There are way too many sources in today's media that will pretend to tell you absolute fact at all times. I am sorry, I can not promise that. The name Brainiac Society represents and slightly parodies this ideal. Of course, I can not claim to be an expert on every single topic I challenge here. What I aim to do is to make you look at everything presented from 2 dimensional reasoning with a 3-d mentality. I aim to search for that outer plane of thinking that allows for stimulation of your brain.
My second reason for naming my blog the Brainiac Society is because the second name is what I intend for this venture to become, a place and collection of minds that can discuss any topic that comes into the lexicon of the group, or society. I want involvement, because the world is in need of those who want to positively effect things around them. So the reader and the writer are equally invested.
Finally, my last reason is because of what the name assumes. Brainiac assumes intellect. My writing will not lack anything in that area, and that's the promise I make to you. I promise that I will try to do my best to inform, educate, and entertain you, the reader.
My subject matter is your subject matter. I will write to guide, but not control the range of information and entertainment that will be discussed. With that said, a lot of my interests will be reflected in this blog. And I'll give you three topics that I can guarantee that I will discuss my loves; sports, hip hop and politics.
With that said, welcome to the Brainiac Society. Membership is not exclusive, and every brain is welcome to input.
Peace.
